The 3rd USA Regional Assembly in Las Vegas

The Order of the Knights of Rizal held the 3rd Regional Assembly at the Orleans Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada from September 3 to 5, 2010. More than a hundred and twenty knights and ladies from different parts of world gathered and discuss on different issues and to honor the life of the national hero Dr. Jose Rizal. This was also the time when awards and medals, initiation, elevation, exaltation and conferment ceremonies were given to deserving knights and ladies who propagated the ideals of the Order.

The first order of business was the roll call right after the opening ceremonies of the assembly which was done by Sir Felix O. Gonzales, KGOR the Deputy Regional Commander for the USA. Present in our midst were delegates from Spain, Germany and Belgium and the Philippines. The during morning session, Sir Tom Rodriguez, KGOR, incoming Deputy Regional Commander for the USA and resource speaker spoke about Rizal’s Vision on the Effect of Proper Education: Economic Strata of Filipinos in the U.S. Compared with other Ethnic Groups.” The second speaker was Sir Lucien Spatiel, KGOR of the El Filibusterimo Chapter, Belgium who gave a very enlightening lecture using PowerPoint Presentation on “Life of Rizal in Europe.” His research give the knights present in during the assembly a wonderful insight on the activities of Dr. Rizal in the field of education, communication and the arts. Sir Lucien showed documents and letters of Dr. Jose Rizal for the first time shown to the public.

The assembly was divided into two groups to discuss on the topic “Proper Education: The Key to Peoples Freedom from Poverty and Ignorance”. Group A was headed by Sir Val Dagani, KGCR and Group B was headed by Sir Roger Alama, KGCR. The summary of the discussions were done by Sir Eddie Limon, KGOR incoming Regional Commander and Sir Felix O. Gonzales, KGOR outgoing Deputy Regional Commander respectively. This way we can put words into action and translate our ideas into activities.

In the afternoon, the Regional Commander, Sir Rey Banta, KGOR gave an introductory report followed by the Area Commanders from Eastern USA I, II and III, Central USA, and Western USA. After all the reports, Supreme Commander, Sir Pablo Trillana III gave the State of the Order address. The address is the main highlight of the 3rd USA Regional Assembly.

The Dinner and Gala Night was held at the Bienville Hall. The time has come for everyone unwinds after a long hectic day at the assembly. Aside from the presentation of plaques for deserving knights and ladies, there were cultural presentations from the different chapters. This was also a time when the Ladies for Rizal and the Mga Kababaihang Rizalista were recognized. The evening activity continued through the evening with a night of music and dancing.

After late breakfast on the last day of the assembly, we all gathered at the lobby for the tour of Red Rocks Canyon. The canyon is located 17 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip on Charleston Boulevard/State Route 159. The area is 195,819 acres and is visited by more than one million people each year. In marked contrast to a town geared to entertainment and gaming, Red Rock Canyon offers enticements of a different nature including a 13-mile scenic drive, more than 30 miles of hiking trails, rock climbing, horseback riding, mountain biking, road biking, picnic areas, nature observing and visitor center with exhibit rooms and a book store.

The entire delegation would like to convey its congratulations to Sir Dante Ulanday, KCR, Chapter Commander, Las Vegas Chapter and Sir Farid Baena, KCR, Deputy Area Commander together with their chapter and staff for the good work in sponsoring the 3rd USA Regional Assembly in Las Vegas, NV.
