114th Year of the Martyrdom of the Philippine National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal

This year’s celebration of the 114th Year of Martyrdom of the Order of the Knights of Rizal, Central USA Area Council was simple and yet meaningful. The evening started with the floral offering held indoor at the Dr. Jose Rizal Center headed by Sir Bonifacio Cenir, KGOR, Area Commander. After the formal introduction of the program, Consul General Leo M. Herrera-Lim of the Consulate Generals Office in Chicago gave insight on the forthcoming Sesquicentennial Celebration of Dr. Rizal’s birthday and the program of activities for the Midwest. There will be more announcements posted in the Consular Generals Office web site regarding the celebration.

While the knights and ladies were having dinner, a synopsis of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal at the field of Bagumbayan was shown on a big screen. This experience is a flashback on the death of the national hero by firing squad on the 30th of December 1896.

The chapter commanders from Central USA were given assignments to write on their insights on the Martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal. The topics rank from Dr. Rizal’s last trip abroad, the homecoming and trial, and the martyrdom at Bagumbayan. The assembly appreciated the preparation and delivery made by the commanders on the assigned topics. Mr. Rey Brucal, a newspaper columnist recited a poem in Pilipino on Dr. Jose Rizal. The evening’s program ended with announcements for the area activities by Sir Boni and the closing remarks by Sir Willi Red Buhay, KGOR, Deputy Area Commander.
