Former chief justice Davide appointed UN ambassador

Former Supreme Court chief justice Hilario Davide Jr. on Sunday took his oath as the Philippines’ permanent representative to the United Nations, replacing Ambassador Lauro Baja Jr., ANC reported.

In an interview with ANC correspondent Ricky Carandang, Davide said that being appointed to such a prestigious position can be very challenging but assured that he will undertake his role to the best of his ability.

“That is an initial appointment that I had after my retirement— a very challenging work in the United Nations. So I hope that I can give the best of myself in like manner that I rendered service to our country in my prior positions in the government,” he said.

Davide also said that his term would primarily be focused on diplomacy, a significant agenda of the 12th Association of the South East Asian Nations Summit in Cebu.
