Belgium highlighted at Knights of Rizal Ceremonies

Manila 3 July 2010 — Amidst the formality of the grand hall of the Order of the Knights of Rizal and the presence of the Supreme Council and Council of Elders, Several important ceremonies were conducted, strengthening the organisation of the Knights especially on the international scene. In anticipation of Belgium’s National Day celebrations on 21 July, two Belgians were honored this day. The ceremonies opened with the usual singing of the national anthem and the national pledge, followed by the singing of the KOR hymn led by Sir Reynald Mateo, KGOR, newly elected Deputy Supreme Exchequer.

Sir Dominiek Segaert, KCR, Chapter Commander of Diamond (Antwerp) and Deputy Area Commander for Belgium was then conferred the rank of Knight Grand Officer (KGOR). In his note of thanks, Sir Dominiek said it is not medals that count, it is service and living the ideals of José Rizal.

Belgian Ambassador to the Philippines and President of the European Delegation in the Philippines, H.E. Christian Meerschman was initiated to the Knights of Rizal and was exalted to the third degree rank of Knight Commander of Rizal (KCR). In his discourse, Ambassador Meerschman spoke of the various cultural ties between Belgium and the Philippines, highlighting the work of the Belgian religious order, ICM which has worked for many decades in Philippine schools and produced many Fiilipina missionaries.
